Phonics - FLSZ Rule & -all.-oll,-ull

- When we hear /f/,/l/,/s/ or /z/ at the end of a word after a short vowel sound, we use double letters, or the same letter two times, to spell that sound.

- We also learned that when -ll comes after the vowels A,O and U the ll changes the vowel sound

- Please check your child's red folder this weekend and read the decodables we practiced this week

- If your child did not draw, or finish, their picture you could encourage them to do so

Best Guess Spelling

-We have been practicing using our 'best guess spelling' when we are writing sentences
-We draw a line for every syllable that we hear and then write down the sounds that we hear
-We make sure to remember that each syllable needs to have a vowel in it

The Curious Scientist

-We read the story Ada Twist Scientist by Andrea Beaty
-We then talked about what a scientist is and what they do
-We created a picture of ourselves as a scientist
-We wrote down some things that we have questions about and wonder

Dot Day

- September 15 was Dot Day - A celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration
- The event is inspired by The Dot, a beloved 2003 children's book by author and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds.
- MTS celebrated this day as a school community. Each class read the book and created dots to form a giant school mural.

Patterns on a 100 Chart

- In math we continued to explore patterns
- This week we looked at patterns on the 100 chart
- This is a helpful skill because it allows students to visually see place value and the sequence of numbers

MTS Open House

McKenzie Towne School will be hosting an Open House for students and their families on Thursday September 24. Doors will be open at 5:00pm.

This will give you an opportunity to meet your student's teacher and see the school.

Mrs. McLean, our lovely librarian, will also be hosting a Book Sale in the library.

If you are interested in attending this informal event, please feel free to pop into the school any time between 5:00pm and 6:30pm.

Hope to see you there!
