Our Favourite Day of the Year - In Social Studies we are learning about culture and traditions - We read the book Our Favourite Day of the Year in which students in a classroom like ours shared their families favourite days and how they celebrate - We then wrote about our own personal favourite traditions with our families - Students shared so many special moments that they love celebrating with you, it was lovely to hear their stories Phonics -ild, -old, - ind, - olt, ost -we reviews words with different ending patterns -all of these ending use a long vowel sound when saying them -Y spells /i/ at the end of a one-syllable word such as the word my.  Y spells /e/ at the end of a two syllable word such as baby. -The consonant LE pattern is a final stable syllable.  That means the LE pattern is always at the end of a word and always makes the same sound.  /L/ like in the words table and puzzle. *Please check your childs RED folder this weekend and re-read the decodables t...

  High Frequency Words We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are: Fact vs. Opinion - We learned how to distinguish facts from opinions - A fact is something we know to be true because there is evidence to confirm it - An opinion is something we think or feel - We then took notes about jellyfish while watching some interesting videos - Then we used our notes to create an informative text Comparing Numbers - We learned how to compare numbers using terms like: greater than, less than and equal too - We reviewed the signs for greater than >, less than < and equal than + - Inequality is an imbalance between two quantities - We played a card game where we practiced building three digit numbers and identifying which one was larger Natural Resources - We learned about 6 natural resources in Canada: agriculture, livestock, ...

Winter Bears - We drew winter bears wearing festive sweaters in Art - We learned how to add details using fine lines for fur  - We used pattens to decorate their sweaters High Frequency Words We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. The words this week are: Even and Odd Numbers - All numbers are either even or odd - An even number can be split into two equal groups, an odd number cannot - To determine if a number is even or odd we look to the ones place.
