Dec 15th-19th

Our Favourite Day of the Year

- In Social Studies we are learning about culture and traditions
- We read the book Our Favourite Day of the Year in which students in a classroom like ours shared their families favourite days and how they celebrate
- We then wrote about our own personal favourite traditions with our families
- Students shared so many special moments that they love celebrating with you, it was lovely to hear their stories






Phonics

-ild, -old, - ind, - olt, ost
-we reviews words with different ending patterns
-all of these ending use a long vowel sound when saying them

-Y spells /i/ at the end of a one-syllable word such as the word my.  Y spells /e/ at the end of a two syllable word such as baby.

-The consonant LE pattern is a final stable syllable.  That means the LE pattern is always at the end of a word and always makes the same sound.  /L/ like in the words table and puzzle.

*Please check your childs RED folder this weekend and re-read the decodables that we practiced this week 

How the Grinch Lost Christmas

-We listened to the original story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas
-Then we listened to the second story How the Grinch Lost Christmas
-We compared the two stories using a Venn Diagram
-What is the same about the stories and characters? What is different?




Carolling

-We enjoyed carolling in the gym with the rest of the school twice this week



Ornaments

-We made Christmas Ornaments to take home and share with our families
-Where will you hang your ornament?





High Frequency Words

We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:

Estimysteries

- In math we have been learning how to estimate using the web series Estimystery
- After making an initial estimate based on an image we are given clues to refine our guess
- The clues involve other math skills we are learning like:
        - greater than/less than
        - skip couting
        - counting backwards 
        - place value
- Feel free to download some estimysteries over the break and practice your skills at home


Pyjama Day

- Every one was cozy at school on Friday for PJ day!
- We listened to Dr. Slater read the story The Wild Christmas Reindeer by Jan Brett
- It was a wonderful morning together celebrating the season
- We hope everyone has a very wonderful winter break! See you back on Monday January 5th!

Sept 15th - 19th

  Three Left Feet Dance Residency- Time changed! -We have a dance residency over the next few weeks -We would like to invite parents to our final showcase on  September 25th at 8:30 am -We hope to see you there!
