September 2nd-5th

Welcome to Grade Two!

We are so excited to continue to build relationships and begin our learning journey together this year!  Please check the blog every Friday afternoon for updates on what we have learned about that week.

First Day Feelings

There are so many different ways to feel on the first day of school! We read the story First Day Jitters, and talked about how we felt before coming to school this morning. We practiced using tally marks by going around the room, meeting our classmates and surveying them on how they felt this morning. Then we made a class graph. Most people in our class felt excited about the first day!

High Frequency Words

We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:

Be sure to check the blog each week to know which words to practice!

Find a Friend Hunt

Listen, Learn and Grow

We read a story that taught us how we can use our whole body to help us regulate, listen and engage at school.  Be sure to ask your child how they can listen with their minds, heart and body.

Our Class is a Family

-After reading the story Our Class is a Family by Shannon Olsen we talked about how we can be a classroom family?  Some of the ways we came up with were:

-helping each other

-ask someone new to play

-being kind to others

-take care of each other

-be honest

-check in with each other

-show respect

-celebrate our differences

-feel safe to make mistakes

-help each other learn

-not distract others

-give someone an extra hand

I Promise

-After reading the story I Promise by LeBron James we were inspired to make a class promise that includes all of the things that matter to us as a class community

We promise to:

-Be kind

-Be respectful

-Be responsible

-Work Hard

-Have fun!

Patterns in Our World

-We talked about how a pattern is something that repeats or follows a rule.
-We went out side on a pattern hunt where we found lots of different patterns in and around the school yard

This School Year Will Be The Best!

We read the book This School Year will be the Best which is all about children telling their wishes for the coming school year. Then students wrote a sentence about their own hopes for the school year. Some of the ideas were funny, others were ambitious. We put them all together in a class book that we will share with you at Meet The Teacher Night next Thursday!

A Message from Mr. V

The school Terry Fox Run will take place on Friday, September 12th at 9:00 am. Students are encouraged to bring in Toonies for Terry to support cancer research. If we reach our fundraising goal of $1150, we’ll celebrate the following week with a special “Wear Your Favourite Sports Swag” day!
