High Frequency Words

We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:

Testing and Measuring Properties

- We learned about the properties of matter
- Certain properties are better suited for making different objects (for example a car made out of paper would not be very safe!)
- We went through centres to test 6 different properties: weight, length, malleability, transparency, absorbency and reflection

Phonics - Short Vowel Review

- We have been reviewing all of the short vowel sounds
- Please check your child's red folder this weekend and read the decodables we practiced this week
- If your child did not draw, or finish, their picture you could encourage them to do so

Connecting Indigenous Materials

-We have been talking about how to identify natural materials and objects used by First Nations, Metis and Inuit people.
-We read the story The Sharing Circle and then created our own class talking stick that we will use during our Sharing Circles throughout the year

-We also created a Tipi in our journals to mimic different materials that they would be made out of
-We learned that Tipis are special homes that were traditionally used by some Indigenous people. They are shaped like a cone and made from natural materials. The frame is made from long and sturdy poles, usually made from trees. Then, the people would cover the poles with animal hides or large pieces of fabric.

Don't forget that Library Day is on THURSDAYS

Decorating Visual Journals

- Thank you for sending in items for your child to use on their visual journal!
- If you forgot don't worry, we had lots of extra materials in the classroom and some students had extra things to share
- Students had so much fun personalizing their covers!
