High Frequency Words

We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:

Art Cards

- We are making art cards that families can purchase to support parent council

- The theme is for spring so we made some colorful spring bouquets

- We used markers, pastels and paints to create our artwork

- Keep your eyes our for more information about purchasing art cards coming up!

Pizza Fractions

- We are learning about fractions in math

- A great way to visualize fractions is with pizza slices

- We represented fractions from 1/2 to 1/12 in our visual journals with pizzas

Phonics: Vowel Teams

- We are learning about vowel teams in phonics

- Vowel teams occur when two vowels work together to make one sound

- This week we learned about vowel teams that make the long E sound - ee,ea,ey, and vowel teams that make the long O sound - oa,ow and oe

*Please check your child's RED folder this weekend and re-read the decodables that we practiced this week 

Sound Energy

- In science we learned about energy 

- Sounds energy is the energy that makes sounds. When you talk, sing or play music you are using sound energy to create the sounds we hear

- We talked about natural and artificial sounds

- We played sound guessing games

- We read the musical story "Peter and The Wolf" and listened to how different instruments could be used to create characters in a musical story.
