Hello Families! As we wrap up our wonderful year together, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our students and families. This year has been filled with so much learning, growing, laughter, and the building of a truly special classroom community. Thank you for your support, kindness, and partnership throughout the year.  Phonics -suffixes are added to the end of a word to change the words meaning. -the suffix -ment generally changes a verb into a noun.   -a payment is money paid to someone or the act of paying - the suffixes -able and -ible are added to indicate able to or can do Words of the Week -Thank you to everyone for your ongoing commitment to practicing the words of the week throughout the year -It has been so great to see all of the students try their best on the tests after practicing at home -Being the last week of school, next week, we won't be having a test. Acrostic Poems -We learned that an acrostic poem is where the first letter of each line spells out a word or message -Then we use words or phrases to describe that word -We chose to write about summer ideas -Afterwards, we practice memorizing our poem and recited it in front of the class!  Phonics- The Suffix -y (means full of or described as) -Suffixes are added to the end of a word to change the word's meaning. -The suffix -Y means full of or described as -When we use -Y as a suffix, it makes the long /e/ sound -Y is usually added to nouns to make them adjectives.  Adjectives are describing words -If I say cloudy outside, that means the sky is full of clouds. Phonics: The Suffix -ness means state of, or the way something is - When adding -ness to words that end in Y, we follow the y to i rule (happy = happiness) Spelling Test- Homographs For next week, please spend some time reviewing homographs. Homographs are words that are spelled the same but have different meanings. Homographs to Know: 1.)Bat – an animal that flies / sports equipment used in baseball 2.)Park – a place to play / to stop a vehicle 3.)Watch – a timepiece / to look at something 4.)Ring – a piece of jewelry / the sound a bell makes 5.)Duck – a bird / to lower your head quickly 6.)Can – a meta...

 Phonics- -ER, -OR and -IST / - ISH -The suffixes -Er, -OR and -IST mean some (one/thing) that does an action -When we add the suffix -ER to verbs, or action words, it makes the verb become a noun meaning one that does (i.e. Teach to Teacher) -OR and -IST are also used to make verbs into nouns -OR is pronounced /er/ as in sailor. -IST is pronounced /ist/ as in cartoonist - We also learned about the suffix -ish meaning somewhat like Spelling Test- Homophones -For next week, please spend some time reviewing homophones.
