 Phonics- -ER, -OR and -IST / - ISH -The suffixes -Er, -OR and -IST mean some (one/thing) that does an action -When we add the suffix -ER to verbs, or action words, it makes the verb become a noun meaning one that does (i.e. Teach to Teacher) -OR and -IST are also used to make verbs into nouns -OR is pronounced /er/ as in sailor. -IST is pronounced /ist/ as in cartoonist - We also learned about the suffix -ish meaning somewhat like Spelling Test- Homophones -For next week, please spend some time reviewing homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same when we say them, but they have different meanings and different spellings. Homophones to Know: To / Two See / Sea Sun / Son Right / Write One / Won Blue / Blew Hear / Here No / Know Be / Bee Their / There 1.) Practice at Home -Read each pair of homophones aloud. -Make sure you know the meaning of each word. -Try using each word in a sentence. -Ask a family member to quiz you on the pairs.
