Phonics

-We wrapped up our UFLI phonics program this week by learning about Prefixes
-Prefixes are added to the beginning of a word to change the words meaning
-We learned UNI-, BI-,TRI-
-We can remember what these prefixes mean by adding each prefix to a base cycle.  A unicycle has one wheel, a bicycle has two wheels and a tricycle has three wheels.
- We also did the very last UFLI lesson 128 - we were not able to complete the last decodable but we sent it home if you would like to finish it up

Grade Two Winter Count

-We learned about how a long time ago, before calendars and clocks, people used nature and pictures to keep track of time.
-Some First Nations people used winter counts. These were drawings or symbols on animal hides that showed one big event from each year, like a great hunt or a big storm.
-We used this concept to create our own Winter Count from the school year.  We drew symbols to represent all of our favourite things we did throughout the school year
-Some of our best memories were:
Three Left Feet Dancing
Baby Chicks
Pancake Breakfast
Sam Centre
Confluence Field Trip
Leprechaun Traps
Hal EagleTail
Groundhog Day
First Day of School
Art Cards
Bird Watching
Bug Watching
Buddies
