Things To Bring In

- We are asking families to please send in items to decorate and personalize the covers of our visual journals. These can be things like photos, stickers, printed images, pictures from books or magazines, or basically anything flat that can be glue onto the cover. Please send in a collection of items by next Friday, the 19th of September, as we will be working on the covers that day

- We are also asking each family to please send in one ball of yarn that we can use for weaving projects in the classroom

Thank you so much for supporting your child and our classroom community!

Home Reading

-Look out for your child's RED home reading duotang that came home on Friday.
-You will find decodables that accompany the skills your child is working on in class.  Please have your child explain the concept they studied this week, and have them read the passage to you.  As you read together you can help your child by asking them questions to check their comprehension.
-You will also find a second comprehension sheet and their spelling test from that week
-Please return the red duotang the following Wednesday at the latest.

What Are Patterns?

- We reviewed that patterns repeat or follow a rule

- Some patterns repeat an attribute (e.g. colour, shape, size direction), other patterns are changing patterns (e.g. increasing or decreasing patterns)

- We can identify the core or unit of a pattern by noticing the smallest portion that repeats

- We made repeating and changing patterns using shape blocks

Exploring Materials

- We learned to identify different types of materials like glass, wood, clay, plastic, metal and fabric

- We learned that each material has different properties that make it best suited for certain objects. For example clothing made out of fabric is light, comfortable and flexible. Metal would not be a good material for clothing because it would be heavy, it doesn't bend easily and it isn't comfortable on the skin

Sentence or Sentence Fragment

- In writing we learned that sentences are formed with two parts: subjects and predicates

- If a sentence does not have these two parts it is a fragment

- The subject tells who or what the sentence is about

- The predicate tells what the subject has, is or is doing

One Word For Kids

If you could choose only one WORD to help you have your best year ever, what would it be?
-We read the story One Word For Kids by Jon Gordon and then talked about what our word for the year would be.
-As a class we came up with so many wonderful words to represent what we are hoping for
-Some of them included strong, smile, brave, fast, kind, thankful, courage, better, positive, grow, win and joy
-We thought it would be fitting to display our word with our self portrait which represents us in September of Grade 2!

Terry Fox Run

-We learned about Terry Fox and how he persevered
-We talked about how we have to persevere through challenges
-We set a goal and ran as many laps as we could
-We were very proud of ourselves!
