High Frequency Words
We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:
Fact vs. Opinion
- We learned how to distinguish facts from opinions
- A fact is something we know to be true because there is evidence to confirm it
- An opinion is something we think or feel
- We then took notes about jellyfish while watching some interesting videos
- Then we used our notes to create an informative text
Comparing Numbers
- We learned how to compare numbers using terms like: greater than, less than and equal too
- We reviewed the signs for greater than >, less than < and equal than +
- Inequality is an imbalance between two quantities
- We played a card game where we practiced building three digit numbers and identifying which one was larger
Natural Resources
- We learned about 6 natural resources in Canada: agriculture, livestock, mining, oil and gas, fishery and forestry
- We learned about the regions where these resources are found
- Agriculture, livestock and oil and gas are important natural resources found in Alberta
Phonics
-Open/Closed:
- We have been learning about closed and open syllables
- A closed syllable has one vowel that makes a short sound and ends with a consonant (e.g. met)
- An open syllable has one vowel that makes a long sound and ends with that vowel (e.g. me)
- We can combine open and closed syllables to make longer words
- Please check your child's red folder this weekend and read the decodables we practiced this week
- If your child did not draw, or finish, their picture you could encourage them to do so
Reindeer
-We learned facts about reindeer this week
-We learned that they are known as caribou in North America and are known as a 'snow shoveler.'
-We drew a scientific picture and labelled it
Buddies- Gingerbread Roll and Draw
-We met up with our afternoon Kindergarten buddy class this week
-We each drew our own gingerbread house
-We used the 'Roll and Draw' as a guide to think about how to add details to our design
