Dec 1st - 5th

Winter Bears

- We drew winter bears wearing festive sweaters in Art
- We learned how to add details using fine lines for fur 
- We used pattens to decorate their sweaters


High Frequency Words

We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:



Even and Odd Numbers

- All numbers are either even or odd
- An even number can be split into two equal groups, an odd number cannot
- To determine if a number is even or odd we look to the ones place. If that number is 0,2,4,6, or 8 the number is even. If that number is 1,3,5,7,9, that number is odd

December Calendar

- We completed our December calendar in our visual journals
- There are so many fun and exciting things happening this month
- Some key dates include:
                                        - December 11 - Red and Green Day
                                        - December 18 - Pyjama Day
                                        - December 19 - Last Day of School before Winter Break


Elf Application

-We read the story North's Pole by Lindsay Yacovino & Courtney D'Annunzio 
-Then we talked about how fun it would be if we were an elf
-We made a list of all of the jobs that elves do
-We worked on a sheet answering what elves CAN, HAVE, and ARE


-We then wrote an opinion letter to Santa claiming why we would be the best elf for the job.  ---Here are some of the reasons we think we would be the best choice:
"I make delicious cookies that look like reindeer with brown icing and a cherry. nose."
"I will wrap up toys for babies and kids."
"I am really good at making cookies for your elves and kids all around the world."
"I love making toys because it is fun making toys for other kids to enjoy and have fun."
"I can see if kids are on the naughty list or the good list."

Grocery Store (Skip Counting)

-We have been practicing to skip count money by the value of coins and bills.
-We used a pretend store to practice buying and selling while using coins and bills to skip count


Medicine Wheel- Spirit:

-We learned about the Indigenous Medicine Wheel and how it represents a circular symbol
-Different nations have different teachings related to the medicine wheel
-It is tied to seasons and different elements
-We talked about how everything flows in a circle
-We specifically focused on the spirt domain and how we can feel calm and be our best self
-Some of the things that we do to feel calm are:
"I feel calm when I am reading quietly.  It makes me feel nice."
"I feel calm when I get my blanky and pillow.  The I turn on the heat."
"I feel calm when me and my dog sleep."
"I feel calm when I am reading a book it my room."

September 2nd-5th

Welcome to Grade Two!  We are so excited to continue to build relationships and begin our learning journey together this year!  Please check the blog every Friday afternoon for updates on what we have learned about that week.   First Day Feelings There are so many different ways to feel on the first day of school! We read the story First Day Jitters , and talked about how we felt before coming to school this morning. We practiced using tally marks by going around the room, meeting our classmates and surveying them on how they felt this morning. Then we made a class graph. Sept. 9th -12th

Things To Bring In - We are asking families to please send in items to decorate and personalize the covers of our visual journals. These can be things like photos, stickers, printed images, pictures from books or magazines, or basically anything flat that can be glue onto the cover. Please send in a collection of items by next Friday, the 19th of September, as we will be working on the covers that day - We are also asking each family to please send in one ball of yarn that we can use for weaving projects in the classroom Thank you so much for supporting your child and our classroom community!
