High Frequency Words

We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:

there, use, an, each, which, she, do, how, their,  if

Phonics- ck spells /k/

-When we hear the /k/ sound at the end of a word after a short vowel we spell it CK, like at the end of the word duck.  CK together is called a consonant digraph because it is two letters that come together to make one sound.

- Please check your child's red folder this weekend and read the decodables we practiced this week

- If your child did not draw, or finish, their picture you could encourage them to do so

Writing- Types of Sentences

-We continue to practice writing different types of sentences this week
-We looked at various picture prompts and then wrote an exclamatory, statement and question pertaining to what we thought the picture was about

Representing Quantities

-We learned that quantity is a word that tells us how many things there are or how much of something we have.
-We talked about different ways to represent numbers
-We estimated the number of doors on the east side of the school
-Afterwards, we used different methods(tallies, groups of 5, pairs) to count the actual number of doors
-We then talked about the most efficient way to make recording and counting easier

October Calendar

-We created a October Calendar page in our visual journal
-We wrote down all of the important days throughout the month
-We then decorated the page with stickers and stamps

Yayoi Kusama Pumpkins

- We learned about the artist Yayoi Kusama
- Kusama is a Japanese contemporary artist who is famous for her immersive installations as well as pumpkin sculptures
- We created pumpkins of our own, inspired by her work
- We learned about complimentary colours, line and value
