High Frequency Words

We will not do the spelling test next Friday because of the short week. We will add a new list to the blog next week.

Place Value

- In math we reviewed place value and learned how to identify the place value of digits in a four-digit number

- To practice this skill we used base ten blocks, place value charts and played games with cards

Gathering Information

- In writing we learned how to gather information to write sentences about a topic

- We learned some interesting facts about pufferfish!

- Students are working on writing at least three sentences and then verifying them with an editing checklist to look for capitals, punctuation, clarity and spaces between words.

Phonics

- We reviewed magic e, also known as silent e or bossy e

- When this e is at the end of a CVC word it makes the vowel say it's name. For example pin - pine

- Please check your child's red folder this weekend and read the decodables we practiced this week

- If your child did not draw, or finish, their picture you could encourage them to do so

November Calendar

- We numbered each day in the month of November
- We recorded the important dates this month like Remembrance day, birthdays, no school days and parent teacher conferences
- We also answered some questions related to the calendar (e.g. How many Fridays are there this month)

Number Lines

- We also reviewed number lines this week and learned how to identify where to place numbers on the line

-We talked about how putting numbers on a line like this helps us understand how numbers relate to each other.

Place Value Game

-We played a new game that helped us to practice where the digits of a number belong (thousands, hundreds, tens or ones)
-Be sure to ask your child how to play

Buddies

-We are so lucky that we get to be buddies with Mrs.Bitz morning and afternoon classes
-Ask your child about the game we played with our afternoon buddy class this week

A Poppy Is To Remember

-After our Remembrance Day Assembly we read the story A Poppy Is To Remember by Heather Patterson
-We then started some art in our visual journals that we will add some details and colour next week

Coding using Scratch Jr

-We worked on the iPad app Scratch Jr to build upon our coding skills
-Be sure to ask your child what they learned this week (hint: how to move a character across the screen)
