Phonics
-ar, -or, -ore
-we reviewed r-controlled vowels
- ar makes the pirate sound -rrrrr, it can come at the beginning (art), in the middles (bark) and at the end of words (far)
- or can come at the beginning of words (orange), in the middle (fork) and at the end of words (for)
- When -or is at the end of words it is usually spelled with an -e at the end (store, more)
*Please check your childs RED folder this weekend and re-read the decodables that we practiced this week
January Calendar
- It is the beginning of a new month and a new year!
- We talked about our wishes for 2026 and made calendar for the month of January
High Frequency Words
We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:
Pictographs
- A pictograph represents data using pictures
- We learned how to read and create pictographs
- A pictograph has the following elements: a title, labels, a key, pictures and consistency in the pictures (they should be the same size)
The Wild Robot
-We started the read aloud The Wild Robot by Peter Brown
-Some of us have read it already and lots of us have seen the movie.
-We are excited to experience the story as a class!
Multiculturalism
-As we wrap up our social studies unit we learned that multiculturalism means we can celebrate our cultures while living together in one country.
-We talked about our own diverse community and what we do to celebrate

Note Taking
-We have been practicing taking notes
-We have been creating idea webs and writing factual sentences
-Be sure to ask your child what they learned about Orcas
2026 Goals
-We wrote about what our goals are for this coming year
-We also practiced drawing fire works with pastels
