Groundhog Day
-We read a story called Double Trouble Groundhog Day
-We talked about whether we thought 'Balzac Billy' would see his shadow
-We then learned that he DID see his shadow this year- 6 more weeks of winter
-We then wrote how we feel about this:
"I am happy because I like skating and playing hockey."
"I am sad because I love riding horses in the spring."
"I am sad because I can't wear my new shoes or ride my bike."
"I am happy because I like building snowmen with my brother."
"I am happy because I like building snowmen with my brother."
We went outside with our own groundhog that we drew and explored shadows. Some of the things we noticed were:
"When I move backwards my shadow gets smaller. and when I move forwards it gets longer."
"The more you turn yourself, the thinner the shadow."
"The more you turn yourself, the thinner the shadow."
The Wild Robot
-We drew a picture of what we think Roz from The Wild Robot looks like
-As we listened to the story we added some of the other characters and setting to our picture
Fortune Tellers
-We were so excited to make a fortune teller to review some of the science concepts that we have been learning about Light and Shadow
No Spelling Test Next Week!
- We are taking a break from practicing our high frequency words next week
- Instead we will be testing doubles addition facts on Wednesday
- This week we worked on using doubles and near doubles to help with subtraction. Many students were struggling to remember these facts. So we thought this would be a gret way to solidify this skill
- You will find the doubles below. Help your child memorize them!
Valentine's Day
- We will celebrate Valentine's Day with a card exchange on Wednesday, February 11th in the morning
- If you would like to send cards with your child, please ensure you send enough for the class (24) and have your child write their own name in the "from" section and leave the "to" section blank
