High Frequency Words

We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:

Phonics: EW. UI, UE

We have learned that OO spells the long u sounds. But there are three other ways to spell this long sound
- EW - comes at the end of a word (chew)
- UI - comes in the middle of words (suit, juice)
- UE - comes in the the end of words (blue)
We also made tissUE boxes to help us remember this phonics pattern

Winter Olympics

- We celebrated the start of the Winter Olympics
- We made torches and wrote about which sport we are most excited to watch
- We started a graph to track the medal counts for various countries
- We drew Tina - the Olympic Mascot

Making 10 Strategy

- We reviewed the different ways to make 10
- This is a strategy that students learned in grade 1 and it would be a great thing to practice as fast facts at home

- When you know the different ways to make ten you can use it to help you add larger numbers

Valentine's Day

- We decorated bags for our valentine's
- We read "Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink
- We had a card exchange

Happy Valentine's Day!
