During Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, MTS is inviting families to place a colourful push pin on our world map located in our Learning Commons to show where their family comes from. Together, we’ll create a vibrant picture celebrating the diverse backgrounds that make up our school community!
High Frequency Words
We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:
Phonics: -s/-es
-We learned that morphemes are word parts that change a word's meaning. A suffix is a morpheme we add to the end of a word
-When we add -s/-es to nouns, the noun changes from singular to plural
-When we change a person's name or the pronoun he, she or it, we change the verb ending to -s or -es: He runs. She runs. It runs.
-The rule for adding -es is the same for verbs as it is for mouns. We add -es to verbs that end in ch, sh, s, x, or z
- Please read over this week's decodables with your child and help them practice their decoding and comprehension.
Writing- Adding Adjectives and Adverbs

"The little girl happily jumped very fast in the big puddle."
"A yellow and black bee is buzzing and flying to a white flower."
"The boy rides his red electric bike quickly."

"The pretty girl is happily splashing in the puddle."
Natural Resources in Canada
-We learned that all around Canada, people live near different kinds of places like forests, oceans, farms and mountains. The land and its natural resources help decide what jobs people can do and where they choose to live.
-We had small group discussion and took turns drawing a card and discussing how each of the natural resources helps humans meet their needs and wants.

Trading for Needs and Wants
-Every team was assigned a country

-We drew our countries exports.
-We then exported our goods to other countries and found goods that we needed to import. Then we choose the best method of transportation for every export.
-We learned lots about imports and exports and how important they are
Math - Break Apart Strategy
- In math we learned a break apart strategy which involves breaking the smaller number into it's tens and ones and then jumping along a number line to get the answer
- Most students would benefit from some extra practice with this concept and we sent a practice sheet home for you to go over with your child
- Thanks for your support!
Levels of Government
- In Social Studies we learned about the different levels of government
- Each level has different responsibilities
- Each level has a different leader
- Governments help organize communities so that there is order, safety and responsibility
