High Frequency Words
We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:
high, every, near, add, food, between, own, below, country, plant
Phonics: -ly
-We learned that the suffix -LY means like or manner of
-LY is pronounced with the Y making a long E sound, like in the word slowly
-Words that end in LY are usually adverbs. Adverbs are words that describe actions or things that are happening
- Please read over this week's decodables with your child and help them practice their decoding and comprehension.
How to Catch a Leprechaun
-After reading the story by Adam Wallace we designed our own traps using building materials in the classroom
-We then wrote out all of the steps we would take to catch the leprechaun
-We weren't lucky enough to catch one...better luck next time
Levels of Government
-We worked with a group to discuss which level of government is responsible for each item
-We learned about the Lieutenant Governor (Salma Lakhani) and what she is responsible for
Addition and Subtraction - Base 10 Blocks
-This week we practiced using base-ten blocks to represent addition and subtraction problems.
