High Frequency Words
We will be working on spelling the First 300 High Frequency words with a spelling test each Friday. During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are:
light, thought, head, under, story, saw, left, don't, few, while
Phonics: dis-
-We have been learning that a morpheme is a word part that change's a words meaning. A prefix is a morpheme that comes at the beginning of a word.
-We now know the prefixes UN-, PRE- and RE-.
-This week we learned about the prefix DIS-
-It means not or apart. If you disagree with someone, you do not agree or you have a different opinion
- Please read over this week's decodables with your child and help them practice their decoding and comprehension.
Personal Narratives
-This week we learned about how we can end our personal narrative that we are writing about with a feeling, hope, final action or lesson learned
-This lets the reader know that they story is over
-It is the writers personal reaction about the experience
-Some of the endings we wrote about are:
"After the zoo, I got ice cream and jumped up and down!"
"I wish we could of stayed longer to see the ducks."
"I wish we could of stayed longer to see the ducks."
"Finally I went home and put my tooth under my bed."
"I was so hot that I drank lots of ice cold water."
A Surprise Visitor!
-We came into school this week and noticed that there are some very colourful eggs on the shelf
-We joined Ms.Janisse's class to talk about what we saw
-We learned that we are going to be fostering 12 chick eggs. Over the next 3 weeks we will keep the eggs in the incubator in hopes that they will hatch! Stay tuned to see the progress!
The Solar System
- In science we learned about the solar system
- The sun is the center of the solar system - the planets orbit around the sun
- Earth is the third planet from the sun - the perfect distance for life
- As the Earth revolves around the sun on a tilt it is closer and farther away from the sun creating the seasons that happen in a 365 day year
- As the Earth revolves it is also rotating on an axis spinning to face towards and away from the sun - creating a 24 hour day/night cycle
Landforms
-We have learned that a landform is a natural shape or feature on the Earth's surface, like mountains, hills, valleys, and plains. These special shapes were formed over a really long time by things like wind, water, and even volcanoes!
-We then drew 6 major landforms that exist
Story Plans
-We have been working on making story plans related to a personal narrative
-We had lots of fun including all of the components
