During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words. The words this week are: Phonics -ING:  is an ending we can add to verbs to change their tense. -We add the -INMG ending to verbs when we are talking about actions that continuously happen in the present or past.  When a verb has the -ING ending, a helping verb comes before it: I am going.  He is going.  We are going.  She was going.  They were going Closed Syllables: A closed syllable has only one vowel and the vowel is followed by one or more consonants.  The vowel sound is short.  i.e. hop, kick and fast Open Syllables: An open syllable has only one vowel and the vowel ...

The words this week are: Expanding Sentences -This week (an next week!) we will continue to practice how to expand sentences with when, where, what and why. - We talked about a 'boring sentence' and then talking about the details that we can add to help readers get a clear picture of whats happening Counting within 1000 -We have been practicing count forward and backward by 1s within 1000 starting at any number. -This week, we used a 100s chart as a tool to help us with larger numbers as we counted forwards and backwards -Next week we will continue but use a number line as a tool Cardinal Directions -We learned that cardinal directions are the main directions like North, East, South, and West. High Frequency Words We will not do the spelling test next Friday because of the short week. We will add a new list to the blog next week. Place Value - In math we reviewed place value and learned how to identify the place value of digits in a four-digit number - To practice this skill we used base ten blocks, place value charts and played games with cards Gathering Information - In writing we learned how to gather information to write sentences about a topic - We learned some interesting facts about pufferfish! - Students are working on writing at least three sentences and then verifying them with an editing checklist to look for capitals, punctuation, clarity and spaces between words. Phonics - We reviewed magic e, also known as silent e or bossy e - When this e is at the end of a CVC word it makes the vowel say it's name. High Frequency Words We did not do the spelling test this Friday because of the break from school. The words are the same and we will work on them and test them next week. there, use, an, each, which, she, do, how, their,  if Representing Quantities -We practiced counting different quantities using numbers (standard form) and words.  -We counted different things around us such as things in our desks, some things in our classroom and some things in our school!  -We then worked with a partner to count a group of objects by 2s, 5's or 10s and represented that number with an addition sentence and words Phonics- Digraph Review -A consonant digraph is when two consonants come together to make one sound.   -We reviewed CK, SH, TH, and CH -TH spells two sounds -The unvoiced TH spells /th/ like at the beginning of the word thumb.  The unvoiced /th/ can come at the beginning or end of a word. -The voiced TH spells /th/ like at the beginning of the word this.  Vo...

During the week please practice reading, writing and nicely printing these words.
